Concert tour to Brittany – 25th to 30th
July 2001
Day 1 Wednesday
25th: Wally’s coach arrives in
good time for a 7.00 a.m. start. We
arrive early in Portsmouth, but make good use of the time.
We’re a bit worried
about whether the coach will fit on the ferry!
Day 2 Thursday 26th: A
picnic lunch is followed by a guided tour of the Lice district of Rennes. Later that
afternoon we rehearse in the Église de Notre Dame en Saint-Mélaine. The concert is a great success with over 80
appreciative people in the audience.
Day 3 Friday 27th: An
early start to catch the ferry to Belle Île,
gives us plenty of time to explore and eat before the rehearsal in the Église de
Le Palais, near the harbour. There is an
even bigger audience for the evening concert.
Although ‘Entrée’ is ‘Libre’, the contents of the collection baskets
cover our local costs.
Day 4 Saturday
28th: A free day! A possible trip to the hypermarket is spurned by everybody and a
fascinating day is spent exploring the fortified town of St Malo.
Day 5 Sunday 29th: We
return to Le Havre via Mont St Michel and Honfleur.
Day 6 Monday 30th: Wally
returns us safely to Bowdon. We thank
him, and also Pam and Cath for their most efficient organisation of the whole
trip. Lydia’s piano accompaniment was
as ever faultless and her solo playing superb, but once again, it was Steven
who turned our singing into a performance to remember.
